Annual Report for Calendar Year 2024

The Cemetery Commission sold one plot this year, and the Commissioners installed the cornerstones.  We voted this year to revamp our regulations and plot prices, so please check out the Town website for the newest information.

We are still working diligently to add the burial information of our cemeteries to the website.  This has been a daunting task, but we have made great progress, thanks to a joint effort of our entire commission.  Lost burial records have been located, which has enabled us to make many corrections to our records.

We had five burials this year in two of our cemeteries.  Our sympathies go out to all family and friends that lost their loved ones.

Trees were a big issue this year.  The Center and Bloodbrook cemeteries both had trees that were endangering the fences and headstones, so we prioritized having those trees cut down.  This was an enormously expensive task, and we used most of our Capital Funds to get this done.

Stone cleaning has continued, thanks to our honorary Junior Commissioner, Isla Mansur.  We thank her immensely for all her hard work and dedication to our cemeteries.

Once again, we put out the Veterans’ flags before Memorial Day, and were able to leave them up until after Veterans’ Day.  It is our Veterans who have given us the freedoms that we all enjoy, and we are happy to do this small task to show our appreciation.

We have also been working with a new company to start work on repairing and resetting the headstones that need the work.  We hope to be able to start that work in 2025.

Our commissioners work very hard to keep our cemeteries in good order, and we always welcome the public to attend our annual meeting in the Spring.  We also welcome volunteers to assist with cleaning stones, beautification projects, and always welcome donations.

Please be sure to thank our commissioners for all their dedication and hard work.

Respectfully yours,

The West Fairlee Cemetery Commission
