Selectboard

The Selectboard is at the center of Vermont's local government and has general supervision and control over the affairs of the town.  West Fairlee does not have a Town Manager or Town Administrator.  All executive tasks -- annual reporting and certifications, grants research and management, attendance at State and Regional meetings, oversight of building maintenance and operations, and more -- are shared among the Selectboard Members.

Selectboard meetings are always open to the public.

 PUBLIC NOTICE -- Roads Posted

Each spring, as frost leaves the ground, town roads become especially vulnerable to damage from heavy vehicles. To protect the structural integrity and longevity of local infrastructure, the Town of West Fairlee annually posts certain roads to limit heavy truck traffic during the spring thaw. Pursuant to Title 19 V.S.A. §§ 1108-1110, and as provided by Rule #118-4 of the State of Vermont Transportation Board, temporary vehicle weight restrictions are established on Class 2, 3, and 4 town roads, and by order of the Town of West Fairlee Selectboard, these road postings shall be effective from March 1, 2026 through May 15, 2026. These measures help prevent unnecessary road damage and reduce costly repairs for the community.

Vehicles operated on any or all of Town of West Fairlee Highways (Class 2, 3 & 4) shall be restricted to the following maximum weights:
Two-Axle Trucks: 15,000 pounds
Three-Axle Trucks: 18,000 pounds
Tractors/Trailers: 20,000 pounds

These temporary vehicle restrictions shall be effective upon the proper posting of restricted highways/roads, as provided by law and shall remain in effect until May 15, 2026, or until lifted by the Town of West Fairlee Road Contractor, whichever is sooner.

Excess weight Permits DO NOT Supersede Posted Road Mud Season Weight Limits
There are exceptions. Certain vehicles are exempt from weight restrictions, even when those weight limits are imposed to protect roads during mud season. Exempt vehicles include municipal firefighting, construction machinery, as well as agricultural vehicles and critical services such as home heating fuel delivery trucks.
